El campus de Lo Contador de la Universidad Católica de Santiago se encuentra en el sector de Pedro de Valdivia Norte, junto al cerro San Cristóbal. Es un lugar icónico dentro de Santiago y un campus muy importante para la universidad, albergando todas las instalaciones de las carreras de arquitectura, urbanismo y diseño.
El concurso propone la construcción de un nuevo edificio destinado a oficinas docentes, así como un auditorio. La zona que ocuparía el edificio está muy limitada y linda con varios edificios bien insertados y consolidados en el sector del campus. De hecho, el entorno dominado por edificios de arquitectos reconocidos hacen que la inclusión de uno nuevo siempre sea tema importante a la hora de hacer una propuesta. En este caso proponíamos un edificio que cumplía con todos los requerimientos y dejaba la máxima transparencia transversal, creando una disgregación de abajo arriba en torno a unos núcleos principales, que albergan las estancias cerradas en los niveles inferiores, así como el auditorio.
Lo Contador Campus of Universidad Católica de Chile is located in the Pedro de Valdivia Norte sector, next to the San Cristóbal mount. It is an iconic spot in Santiago and a very important campus for the university. There you have all the major facilities for the architecture, urbanism and design degrees. Most of the buildings are iconic too.
The competition proposed the construction of a new building for the teachers offices, as well as an auditorium. The site space is limitated and nearby there are several existing, consolidated buildings, which need their own free space around them. In fact, the surroundings are dominated by buildings of famous architects, which makes the inclusion of a new spot an issue to be in mind at the time of the conception of the proposal. In this case, we proposed a building obeying all the requeriments and letting the maximum transparency, creating a desintegration from the bottom to the top around some main towers that had the enclosed rooms at the low levels and the auditorium, also at the bottom of the building.
